Andre Garcia Enjoys Tiagong Akyat Role | Aug 14, 2009
MANILA - Andre Garcia is among the casts of the upcoming "Hulihin si Tiagong Akyat", the first of the four installments of Agimat: Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla television series produced by ABS-CBN. It is a story about an orphan who grew up to become a thief and robbed the rich to feed and help the poor in his neighborhood. True-to-life stories with tales about "agimat", meaning amulet, talisman or charm were typical of Ramon Revilla's movies in the seventies such as Nardong Putik, Pepeng Agimat, Tonyong Bayawak , Kapitan Edi Set, Bianong Bulag and other agimat-themed flicks that made the actor-politician a household name during that period and cemented his legacy as an icon of Philippine movies.
Hulihin si Tiagong Akyat is a true-to-life story of Santiago Ronquillo, one of the famous (notorious) outlaws in Philippine history. Tiagong Akyat was a hero, a-la "Robin Hood" to people he helped with his loots. It is believed that he possessed an amulet called "Taga-Bulag" that made him disappear and helped him rob the rich and the oppressors in his hometown of Imus, Cavite and the surrounding towns. The story took place in the 1920's during the American colonial era.
Gerald Anderson will play the role of Tiagong Akyat which will be featured in ABS-CBN's television miniseries, Mars Ravelo's Komiks Presents. It will start airing on August 15, 2009 and will be shown every Saturday at 6:15PM on ABS-CBN Kapamilya TV. It will take over the time slot of "Nasaan Ka Maruja", also a Komiks Presents presentation.
"It feels great to be part of this series as I was able to work with Kuya Gerald, Tita Nova Villa whose husband Tito Freddie is mom's second cousin, and the rest of the cast members. It also gave me a chance to work on action-type role which is a little bit different from comedy and drama that I normally play. It was a challenge but I enjoyed my part. " [translated]. That was Andre's reply when asked about his role in Tiagong Akyat where he will play the young character that Aaron Villaflor will play as an adult – one of Tiago's friends and gang members, also a thief.
This is Andre's second project this year having appeared in the highly-successful movie sequel "You Changed My Life" featuring John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo earlier this year. Andre has also other projects lined up for him by ABS-CBN, one reason the talented child actor's fans have to be happy about. Andre can also be seen in the weekly kiddy-gag show Goin' Bulilit every Sunday evening on Kapamilya TV.

What Joseph Andre Garcia know about Anne Curtis and Sam Milby | Nov 9, 2008
Even Joseph Andre Garcia, the boy who plays Anne Curtis's younger brother in the fantaserye Dyosa, was not spared from the issue regarding the status of the Anne's relationship with co-star Sam Milby. The child actor was jokingly asked by reporters during a press conference if Anne and Sam are still together or have they broken up. Andre's innocent answers only made him look more lovable than he is on TV. "Mas madalas ko pong kasama si Ate Anne, si Sam minsan lang. Hindi ko po alam kung break na sila. Last July ko pa sila huling nakitang sweet. Minsan nakikita ko pa silang nag-uusap," said Andre. Of course, the eight year old boy could only attest to what he sees while he is on the set as he is not privy to more personal stuff. But when asked if he has a crush on the beautiful Anne, Andre immediately dismissed the idea. "Wala akong crush. Bata pa po ako. Bawal po ako magka-crush, aral po muna. Hindi ko po crush si Ate Anne kasi matanda na po siya, bata pa po ako."
While talking about the three male leads on the fantaserye namely Sam, Luis Manzano, and Zanjoe Marudo, Andre obviously got mixed up with the plot of Dyosa wherein the three actors play admirers of Anne and what's going on in real life. His answers made everyone laugh. "Hindi ko na pwede maging crush si Ate Anne kasi 'yung tatlong boys na ang may crush sa kanya. Mga heartthrob 'yun. 'Yung tatlo mga heartthrob sila kasi matatanda na sila."
Andre became famous when he played Chubbs, the chubby but skillful martial arts prodigy in the kiddie superserye Kung Fu Kids. He is now being managed by Star Magic together with fellow Kung Fu Kids stars Jairus Aquino and Paul Salas. Despite his busy schedule, Andre never neglects his studies, and he dreams of becoming a pilot when he grows up. "Gusto ko pa sana maging piloto pero nakuha po ako dito sa acting. Baka mahirap na mag-pilot kapag araw araw akong may taping. Pero naranasan ko naman nang lumipad nung nag-harnes ako sa Kung Fu Kids at sa Dyosa."
